Drive in Sci Fi: The Monolith Monsters (1957) Themonolithmonstersmovi

We are told the hstory about meteors and craters they leave. its accurate knowledge at least as far as they tell us. and then we see a meteor falling, with an explosion and crater that is at least realistic.
Some poor fella is driving his car in desert road when it overheats. the water he pours down into carburettor manages to get onto the rocks bellow. little does he know that those are black meteor fragments that the field is littered with. he takes one with him and leaves, and then we see those that got water start producing smoke. e takes it back home, apparently he is a geologist too. The small town he lives in is a salt-mine town. he tells about it to newspaper guy and they try to figure to what it is but they suspect nothing but a simple rock.
That night wind knocks out a bottle of water on top of the rock and it starts producing smoke too. It also starts growing in size. The next day a child brings the rock home and drops it into a bucket of water. During the night one guy is also dead. apparently he died from becoming completely solid. i smell rocks exchanging places with people. The dead guy is the same geologist that discovered the new rock. So its clear to us that the rock was at fault. When they go the house where the girl with a rock was, they find that whole house os full of meter rocks now and is torn to piece by it. They find the girl, who seems to be nonresponsive and shocked.
They investigate it, almost all silicon, in such a way it should never exist. The girl is dieing form the "rock disease" and they are trying t save her. but they got no idea what it is. They take it to a professor at the university. He thinks its a meteorite. Thank you captain obvious. eventually they figure out that it is silicon rock that takes silicon out of everything that it comes in touch with. that's why people torn to stone. Still not sure why it needs water if it takes silicone, as water is not silicone.
And then it starts to rain. They figure out that its water that makes it grow, and they run for the meteor field in a rain. yeah thats certainly a way not to get infected. The rain is enough so those crystals grow into skyscraper size towers. But i still see no monsters in this movie, just a meteor with extraordinary properties. They get on the horn and tell everyone about it, and they happen to believe it. wow. Th rain stops but the crystals dont, they however notice that the girl is starting to get better, so they are trying to find a cure. Meanwhile crystals are coming to town. They also try to make agent that will stop and even destroy the crystals... unsuccessfully.
After long trials they find that Salt stops them. Lucky them they got dried ocean of salt there. They blow up a damn so water can wash salt into position that will stop the asteroids. It works, the asteroids are stopped.... and washed away apparently. Thisi s the end, even if they havent dealt with the treat yet.

Story: 5/10. no monolith and no monsters, but some nice growing asteroids.
Acting: 5/10. fine.
Sound: 3/10. usually bad, saved only by the sound of asteroids growing.
Sci factor: 7/10. well they were pretty scientific about their methods, but a bucket of water making house full of monolith and humasn being full of silicon was their mistakes. The human body contains a total amount of 1 g of silicon, which decreases at a later age.
Lasting Appeal: 7/10. well thats definitely not your standard 50s monster movie. after all this monster movie had no monsters in it.
Overall rating: 5.
