Drive-in Sci-Fi: Attack Of The Crab Monsters (1957)

A second group of scientists come to an island to check the afterefects of hidrogen explosion tests (whatver happened to the first group we are not told) and one of thme is a big jackass shouting that "there is no fighting welcome" and whatnot. and once again a scientist team fully equipped with granades and other explosions. they even brough their own demolition expert. WHY. They quickly notice there is no birds or animals on the island but just ignore the fact. well there was a hidrogen explosion afterall, so all animals probably died out. the buildings are still standing though.
As they start exploring they suddenly hear a eacthquake sound and see that island mountains are falling apart. They decide to bail and send a pilot to get their water-plane (that would in no way be able to fit all them people anyway) and it crashes into a rock when its coming to the island. good pilot they had there. no escape now, the storm is coming so radio is out of th question aswell.
They find a journal of the first science team which explains that there is a huge monster that cannot be wounded and comes out at night. the earthquake continues meanwhile. they do find some labrats inside the lab (how they have survived?).
This movie starts to look more and more like The Killer Schrews though it came 2 years earlier so maybe the schrews were a remake of this. After yet another 2 years Creature from the haunted sea came but one could say it deviated too far to be caled a copy with different monster. afterall, it wasnt radiation to blame on it either.
Meanwhile, in the other end of the black and white screen, the scientists go swimming. thats right, if your stuck in an island with possible evil monster that they deduct is "seaworm", go swimming, thats the safest place to be and its not like your here to study stuff right?
After that they find a pit in the ground and realize that the island is slowly sinking into the ocean. Oh what a happy place they are in. During the night its earthquake once again. however somone is calling them into the pit so Jim decides to go in wihle the woman that is holding a rope up the surface decides to faint in the middle of the trip down. smart woman. its instantly daytime again and they go into caves to try to find where the pit leads. how they know where the caves are were not told. its like as if they lived there forever. the brave doctor that we saw was badmouthing the island before now has a thoery that he refuses to tell everyone. but we all know what it is, its the killer crabs. the people that were left in the house meet one of the crabs and the crab eats a pistol letting the others run away. It trashes the radio though. deliberately.
They come back to search the cave once agian in the morning, the island starts falling in again and a guy looses his hand udner a rock. it looks like this island has days till its all inside water by that rate.
They are contacted by some entity that pretends to be tiher mising people via "every thing metal" and are lured in a cave. 2 giant crabs attack him, one is killed by dinamite, the other is trapped inside the cave. they then get angry and promise to kill them. they escape, but not without a speciment. they steal the dead crabs feet. after some testing they find out the crabs are negatively charged, assimilate anytihg they eat (incluing minds of thier crew members) and dies instantly on eletrication - turns to ashes. so isntantly they make a machine that can shoot bolts of electricity. woot thats some nice job there in a matter of hours from scrap stuff found around the house (who built the house there anyway?). the crabs return (neither of the 2 are dead) and promsie to kill them and grow a new leg. so they go back to the house and want to use theirm achine they built but there are no crabs incoming. smart crabs with human brains. instead of wiating for the crabs they decide to go search for them AGAIN and find oil. this island is getting better by the hour. now they have a oil source in a middle of schrinking island infested by giant smart crabs that were born from hidrogen exploion. oh and vrab they fo find, behind me that is. thier electrical gun so they set the oil on fire, which doesn othing but speeds up the schrinkage of thei sland. they run towards the antena of radio and place something near it. they lure it near the antena and make it fall on the crab, electrocuting it. so thats one crab down. second is still alive after this suicide stunt but the movie ends anyway.

Story: 6/10. intresting yet still has a long road to go
Acting: 3/10. not good.
Sound: 4/10. a bit better than usual, but just a bit.
Sci factor: 6/10. actually beside the obviuos "crab made of energy" thing the science isnt that bad.
Lasting Appeal: 8/10. A shrinking island full of telepahinc crabs that communicate via metal places while extracting oil? that is not easy to forget.
Overall rating: 5/10.
