Drive-In Sci-Fi: KRONOS (1957) Kronos1957poster

A terribly blinking plastic plate flies around the sky and crashes into the desert. It brings a light to some guy in a passing by car, then he turns around and attacks a military base. the same light comes from the guy into a professor and the guy collapses (and dies). of so its a life form that can jump bodies. now we are talking.
We also learn that an asteroid is heading towards earth. They shoot atomic missiles to asteroid but it doesn't destroy it. however it put it off-course and it will land in the middle of the ocean. Scientist are onto it thinking it could be alien. well dug from the footage they saw anyone would say they are alien, it was a clear as day flying saucer. They fly with a helicopter to search for it but find nothing. After couple days a huge robot comes out of the sea and the doctor that was possessed by the new life form goes nuts. they fix doctor Elliot with electroshock therapy. apparently the alien doesn't like electricity. but the doctors don't believe him when he tells them what happened and instead - drug him. The huge robot just stands there at the shore and do nothing.
After a while as scientists are trying to see what happened with that huge thing it starts absorbing electricity and becomes a one huge magnet. it also appears to be an interesting machine inside. The doctor escapes the mental hospital and commands the giant machine to search for electricity. it moves to a local electro plant. And starts sucking the electricity. When its done it blows the thing up. yeah because coming back for more later isn't an option. The military tries to stop it with planes but it shoots down the planets and wrecks electricity cables along the way. It also stops to kill local plantation workers. They want to send a hydrogen bomb but they find out it absorbs energy and turns it into matter and cancels it the last minute. but they are too late as the plane is being pulled into KRONOS. Kronos goes into defence mode and earns a lot of energy from that move. In energy-shielded chamber the doctor manages to destroy the mini alien and it burst into flames. The KRONOS however grows larger from the hydrogen bomb.
They figure that they can short KRONOS like a battery and go on to do that. it is supposed to destroy the monster with its own energy. They discuss it with meteorological post 3, MP3, oh the allegories we can find here. We see a very long plane flying sequence then a firework on top of the robot and eventually it explodes. With huge explosion, it really is astonishing how they made it. right after that the scientist think about going to the movies, yay.

Story: 7/10. pretty good story actually. simple but effective.
Acting: 6/10. better than your average 50s sci-fi.
Sound: 3/10. pretty bad but that was the standard back then.
Sci factor: 7/10. as much as there are flaws it is pretty decent when it comes to electricity dealing.
Lasting Appeal: 8/10. a monster that sucks a living energy out of mexican farmers. yay. this was really spectacular view and one i wont forget soon.
Overall rating: 6/10.
