Drive in Sci-Fi: Begining of the End (1957) Beginningoftheend

Even in the 50s they used cheesy names for movies like this, except back then it wasnt a name of bad sequel but the movie itself. It starts with city being totaly demolished and 150 residents vanishing. As usual, there is a "woman on the quest", this time a reporter. She also has a phone inside her car, the only explanation - wireless radio phone. i didnt knew that had that in cars in 50s. She finds afacility that expriments on plants with radiation, and there are overgrown vegetables with snails coming in. you can see where it is going. a note to the fact they keep radiactive stuff inside buckets in a locker, would think they take more precautions after one of the researchers already lost his hearing and speech after "radiation accident".
We get to see destroyed city, looks like its been right after hurricane. When they see what they see general doesnt believe them, as usual, but he still takes agrees to take a look. And the hell breakes loose, the army gets attacked but they are much luckier than the townspeople, they manadge to outrun the danger, which is moving slower than a zombie.
The military seems to be useless afterwards aswell. and so are the scientists. For a giant monsters eating people they are pretty reluctant to do that, you can see a soldier around meter from it and he fails to eat him. they also want to evacuate chicago in 1 night, which is ridiculous. they manadge to capture and later kill one of them, with a machine gun. tanks couldnt hit it, now a machinegun can? at least their plan was an inovative one and as always, military plan is not the plan to use, the scientists know better.
The bad special effects are a real hit for this movie, but compared to Cyclops (1957), which in my opinion has a worst movie editing scene ever, it is sustanable, at least its an improvement on sound, we have less of same music for everything theme, however once the stuff hits the fan, its back.

Story: 5/10. Not much of it, but it tried.
Acting: 3/10.
Sound: 3/10. Not as bad, but still pretty annoying.
Sci factor: 4/10. Well they trie to explain the origins, they fixed the problem logically, but there still was a lot missing.
Lasting Appeal: 2/10. Not one to remmeber.
Overall rating: 4/10. Not as bad as the other ones ignoring the extreme usage of acting before film screens, but still wouldnt call it a "good" movie.
