Drive In Sci-Fi: It Counquered The World (1956)

The movies are becoming harder to get now. It seems that the pool of never-ending drive in sci-fis are drying up. But don't despair, i still got few titles in mind.
The scientists that don't seem to be named yet are trying to send a satellite into space in preparation to send man to space. There is also a scientist that tells everyone is in grave danger if they succeed. Apparently other planets want to keep earth out of the space travel. But they argue that there is no life in other planets on this solar system.
3 months later the scientist has a big secret. He found music on Venus. There appears to be some voices in there too but we cant really hear it. Right at that moment someone steals the satellite. You can just sneak up and steal a 80 ton satellite right? The story unfolds in such a manner that it looks like the movie is missing pieces and bits that tie things together.
The satellite returns the same evening and they land it down on earth. They go on exploring it. The crazy scientist thinks he makes contact with Venus which has an alien that supposedly is going to "save them". his wife thinks hes just nuts though. The satellite that brings close resemblance to ufo craft crashes into a mountain, but the alien inside it survives apparently. Apparently inside the satellite there is enough space for the venus guy to hide in and even walk around. no wonder its 80 tons if you make huge room in them middle of unmanned satellite. Well the guy gets off and looks like a pyramidhead with crab hands. Then we get to see some imagery of standing still working docks that makes no sense, everyone cars and even watches seems to have stopped. Even the planes are falling from the sky.
The alien sends out mind control devices as instructed by the "Crazy" scientist to take control of key personnel of the base. Because taking down one base in america will stop space program across the globe right? The silly bat-like creatures that carry the mind control devices however are weak and the "good" scientist kills it. Apparently the only place that works is the crazy scientists home, wouldn't be hard to figure out for the rest of the guys, but they are blind to it. The good guy and his wife walks back to town and first stop is the alien friends house. he seems to be the only one that managed to kill the bat-like insect, as everyone else appears to try but are ultimately retarded.
Then, all things go batshit, something is monstrous on the highway, people running, mind-controlled people shooting innocents. alien spawning more mind control bats. The leaders of town arrests everyone and puts them locked up, the only guy still running around is the "good scientist" because he wasn't infected with mind control but other controlled people think he was.
We then are told that there are 9 of aliens on Venus. Its a dieing race. He came to earth to save us but turns out to be a dictator. The two scientists have a nice discussion, which really has a good dialogue, well, good for 60s sci-fi standards. The scientists aprt and the bad ones wife ramble how he should have gotten shot. and how the good guy saved him and whatnot. but he is stubborn to see anything but his own ambition. The alien bat-like creature this time released by the scientists wife attacks him again. but he once again kills it. either hes awfully lucky, or hes the only person with any brain left in this town.
He kills his wife since she has turned and now he goes to kill the scientist, which he could have done before too. but he wants to talk to him first, and once again they discuss whether its good what the alien is doing or not. They both tell each other they had to kill each other, and decide whether they will actually do it. Meanwhile the wife of an evil scientist finds the real alien and the best she can come up with is "your ugly". great. She tries to shoot him but we dont really see how that ends as we instead see the scientists going to the rescue. the nearby soldiers patrol also goes to the cave and finds the monster, but he runs in panic. The good scientist however runs into the base and shoot the mind controlled scientists. he accidental leaves the major alive though. Who goes shooting everyone around now? The soldiers once again engage the mosnter with the smallest calibre weapons they can find. As they lure him out of the cave bazooka trap dies without firing. yay. the scientist burns the eye of the monster trying to kill it, but not before he gives a speech about it. The monster kills him and dies on its own for no reason.


Story: 5/10. As simple as it was, the plot worked.
Acting: 4/10. For such flick it worked. the lead scientist were fine, others pretty bad.
Sound: 3/10. bad but not as annoying as most of cases.
Sci factor: 5/10. Well they did quite some liberties, but it was mostly philosophical debate. you cant stop water pressure by mind control though.
Lasting Appeal: 4/10. one of the wierdiest looking creatures ive seen. beside that not very memorable.
Overall rating: 4/10.
