Drive-In Sci-Fi: X...The Unknown (1956) Xtheunknownmovieposter

A brittish soldier with almost no protection finds an radioactive fragment. Apparently its uranium but the kids aren't told what thier searching for. land opens wide and explodes, leaving two soldiers burnt bad. A doctor comes to investigate and notices that the burns are radiation. Apparently the break in ground seems to be bottomless. If that were truth we would have lava coming out.
Some stupid kids wandering though the forest meets something but we never see it. it makes a electricity arking sounds. they also get radiation burns and thus the same doctor investigates. While he was away someone broke into the doctors lab and stole all radioactivity. The monster continues to steal all radioactive material and this time raids hospitals roentgen. they deduct that the monster can take any form it wants due to it coming form the grill. we still dont see it. the rampage continues with 2 Scots guarding the hole monster came from. why it came there - no idea.
So they go into the hole, unprotected, via cable. it just killed two men, and they send in the 3rd victim. They find the creature but manage to escape from it. so they pour gasoline, light it up, and then explode the stuff. then they just put concrete over the bottomless pitt (how is that possible anyway?) and leave it at that. But it breaks out again, and this time we finally see it. a bunch of chocolate moving around and you call that a radioactive monster? Anyway, the monster goes after a large load of cobalt. The doctor is smarter and tries to move it away so the monster wouldn't get any. now when the monster attacks the base it seems to look extremely the same as the Blob., But that came 2 years later.
The doctor is trying to find a way to neutralize the monster and apparently finds a way to neutralize radiation. well, that we could sue to destroy radioactive waste, so go on and invent it.
they lure the monster with radioactivity between two scanners that are meant to do it. and it works, the creature glows and explodes, twice.

Story: 8/10. pretty good actually. the monster was rather believable.
Acting: 7/10. one of the best from the 50s
Sound: 5/10. the music awful as always, but there was very little of it and the rest was filled with good ambient.
Sci factor: 8/10. pretty good on this department as well. didnt expect that much.
Lasting Appeal: 5/10. i guess this will be remembered, its like a blob, but earlier and radioactive, woo.
Overall rating: 7/10.
