Drive in Sci-Fi: Earth Vs The Flying Saucers (1956)

I was already intreted why they called UFOs "flying saucers" bcause saucer basically means a plate under your cup. apperently it was first used in 1947, though the image of saucers for unidentified flying objects is from at least 1880s. sometime new every day. Another palce explains "saucer" as "something resembling a saucer, as in shape". very accurate.....

And the movie starts with a lot of aliens coming to earth and everyone manadges to report it. they quickly say 97 percent are of natural causes. yeah aliens of natural causes. they decide that they should shoot them down, no questions asked. it doesnt matter that aliesn could be friendly or that thier space-faring species will surely have superior technology. They lanch rockets (13 of them) to observe the saucers that are more or less all around the earth. but they dont need that, one landsright next to a space control station. They try to shoot at it with artilery but they have some kinetic dampening shield. then they just use their phaser to remove all the soldiers. It would allear that their hands are that phase gun and that they are robots. suddenly isntead of removing stuff it turns into explosion blaster, and thne whole buildings getso n fire like somoen would have dumped a ton of oil on it and lit it on fire. the alients kidnap one guy and leave. so much destruction for one guy?
Inside the spaceship they talk to him, in english, and ask why earthlings attacked them, and he replies that they are going to regret it. wow what a stuck up general. Back at earth they discover the messadge aliens sent doctor at that station and they try to go thoughp roper channels but that fails. then he does it renegade way and contacts the aliens. sets up a meeting and escapes from the military complex. but his wife and one soldier follows him.
They get on the ship then the aliens tell them a sad story how their solar system was desintegrated and how they want to ladn on earth peacefuly, and to show that they are seriuos they explode a battleship. peacefully my ass. then they show that the general officer is zombified and then then tell thme they want a conference with whole world leaders to land and live on earth. wow are they crazy.
they return the folks to earth to set up the conference and after 2 days they manadge to talk them into agreeing a meeting and meanwhile they are building weapons to kill them. earthlings are no better. we finally find out that their weapon is ultrasound (ultrasaound cant make things "dissapear"?) and they have elektromagnetic shields. they build a machine that looks like a trashbin on a sattelite dish, then they see a small white probe that came to spy on them, and shoot it down. yay. the sauser comes to check and the scientsits try to get the tihings away from the lab, but they deide to test the gun, that is, before they even hear them out. they test their weapon and it kills an alien, they find out its a small alien in big suit and that alien turns to dust as soon as they open the helmet. if you cna open helmed so easily then defeating them is no hard work though, so what are they sweating about. next suacer comes and destroys their plane nad building though. its a tough tradeoff.
The aliens tell them that they are bombarding sun for 9 days as a show-off and causes disturbance acrsoso the world. floods, earthquakes, no radio or telephone. and that is possible, the double solar flare that should occur in 2010 spring will probably shut down all sattelites for coupel hours, that means - no gps, no internet (except for maybe local incity networking), no out of city telephones and other communications that go via sattelites.
After 9 days the saucers finally attack the earth but all they do is hit couple planes and buildings meanwhile all earth does is some artilery + their secret weapon that is sucesfull in taking down TWO saucers (out of few hundred) totally. the saucers seems to be most occupied by blasting churches rooftops than acutal military targets though. eventually they get around at disintegrating the secret weapon and goes on shooting into white house. but no wait theres acutally 2 secret weapons. how come we were not allowed to know. so they beat the crap out of them and saucers just give up and die. all over the world. they run into the water on the beach happy (should drown but the credists roll argh)

Story: 3/10. simply not logical.
Acting: 6/10. the actors were good but they had to work with terrible script.
Sound: 3/10. the usual.
Sci factor: 2/10. the science is pretty ridiculous when it comes to fighting saurvers or figuring their methods.
Lasting Appeal: 5/10. independance day 40 years ago.
Overall rating: 4/10.
