Drive in Sci-Fi: Mysteriuos Island (1961) Musteriuosisland1961pos

A movie based on Jules Vern's book. Big names like Harry Haryhaused is mentioned. But will it live up to its name? Funny thing is, i recently read the book.
For those that dont know how it goes, it all starts with a group of soldiers during American revolution escaping on air balloon during the storm. and that storm gets the balloon to crash into the water, making the escapees get to an island. However in the movie they take prisoner with them. Even the landing has changed, it wasn't the storm that got them in the movie. they also take way too long to show such a short and unimportant introduction im dreading to think what they done with the rest of the movie. Well they do make a crash landing at least. It seems that they have taken the main points and twisted them as much as possible. a guy unconscious makes a fire to signal its friend upon landing. the cave scene is gone. They changed the island even. instead of a single volcanic island they have a land more like new Zealand. They also seem to see overgrown plans which had no mention on the book. Then they meet crab the size of locomotive. This starts to look more and more like a bad ripoff of Lost World that was written by Conan Doyle than Mysterious Island. They flip the crab on to of its back and kill it by getting him off the cliff and into a geyser. Cooked crab fore everyone. They find a whole group of goats next. Those they actually should find on another island. looks like every scene been twisted by some sick mind at hollywood.
next up, they find a girl washed on the shore. This is too much. Jules Verne has always made it a point to never include romance in his books not to detract from the story. He found it to be a story runnier. He was laughed at, until his books outsold those that laughed at him. looks like this movie is a late attempt at that laughter. In fact they find two women. They are English, and an ridiculous full of themselves women at that. They find a place in the rock, surprisingly similar to the one in the book, except that its naturally ready, when in book they used explosions to form it. this movie don't have time for that, but how they find it is still pretty unnatural. its full of webs and they dont think bad of it. right. Then they find human skeleton in it. and his diary. he hung himself too. this is going way offroad. this is not mysterious island. this is "someone cashing in on famous name with a crap movie". They even find wine in the place, and furniture. So they decide to stay in there.
They live there for a while, then they see a... giant chicken. ok this is getting ridiculous. The women obviously faint, what else are they good at. they eventually kill it. eating it they find that there is a bullet in it and dont think much off it. wait, it should have been a normal sized pig that got a bullet. Next up they visit a beehive. a giant bee hive. where bees are larger than humans and can lock them in the honey combs in matter of seconds. To fight it they cause a fire to melt the wax, as opposed to for example hitting it. They are also getting attacked by pirates, but then two that escaped from the beehive don't know that yet. instead they find a ship, that is going to be captains Nemo Nautilus of course. they are mashing everything into one place and making a mess that doesn't have logical sense.
They encounter the pirates and pirates are firing their cannons trying to destroy the granite house. They also shout randomly like idiots. the ship sins after a giant explosion, of what is supposed to be a seamine. They then meet captain nemo because he shows up on shore instead of inviting them on his ship. They try to get the ship pirates had back up to the surface to escape from volcano thats about to erupt. while walking though it nemo showed them two things underwater. old civilization ruins and a electric gun. right, electricity based gun in water? this really is going to work right?
But volcano starts erupting, so they hide in Nautilus. But captain comes up with a plan to inflate air baloon inside a ship and use that as a lifting force. He is may fail as a giant octopus is attacking them. That octopus has a shell of a snail though so it must be another giant crazy creature that shouldn't exist. They manage to escape with this but nemo dies. but thats simply because they faul to save him.

Story: 1/10. mostly illogical and nothing like Verne wrote.
Acting: 4/10. the usual.
Sound: 1/10. another charade of awful sound effects.
Sci factor: 0/10. giant seashell underwater costumes? underwater electro-gun? wtf?
Lasting Appeal: 3/10. possibly worth remembering like Battlefield Earth is - for a perfect example of awful ecranization.
Overall rating: 2/10.
