Drive In Sci-Fi: The Mummy (1959)

Archaeologist finds a strange site in Egypt. They believe its a long lost princess caravan. He gets warned by a local that death avaits of he continues into the tomb. he kindly ignores it and enters anyway. The set does look pretty good and it can pass as an ancient Egyptian tomb. What's interesting is that a seal with ropes haven't rotten away. but we can let this slip.
After looting it they blow it up. what? are they mad?
3 Years later, a person who warned them about it manages to revive the high priest of the princess. Suddenly in England one of the archaeologists is cured from mental illness, that he caught before blowing it up. Well they did show transporting of the "Egyptian relics" to England so that may be how the mummy got here. The Egyptian guy revives the mummy and sets its wrath upon those who looted his tomb. Its first target - the archaeologist in a mental institution. His method - strangulation.
We then get a very long and slow back-story of the mummy.
The mummy attacks the other archaeologist, but it fends it off with a pistol. The movie keeps jumping between modern England, modern Egyptian tomb and ancient Egyptian tomb. And we also see what happened to a archaeologist that got mad. he revived the mummy. so its archaeologist to blame after all.
The mummy returns to attack the poor guy but he is saved by the girlfriend that looks similar to the ancient princess.
The guy then invites the Egyptian to his home to find out what he is up to. and he mostly does, but he still dont know that he controls the mummy. The mummy returns and starts strangling the poor vincent price again, but the girfriend saves him AGAIN, pretending to be a princess. They eventually chase the mummy to the swamp and shoot it with multiple rifles. it then walks into the swamp and dissapears.

Story: 5/10. a nice beginning of the classic.
Acting: 5/10. pretty decent from all involved. Vincent Price is good as always.
Sound: 1/10. the dread is here.
Sci factor: 1/10. ancient spells brings mummies back to life.
Lasting Appeal: 7/10. Hey, who doesn't know mummy.
Overall rating: 4/10.
