Drive In Sci-Fi: Invasion of the Saucer Men (1957)

It starts with an awful narration telling us its hicksburg and that a silly farmer lives in the place. The two guys in a bar separates and one drives with a car and another walks after him. thats pretty wierd well the one with the car runs over an alien. no wait he doesnt. strange scene anyway. well he goes and wakes the one that walked up, who magically got home before the one with a car! either way, he saw a flying saucer and goes to investigate the thing, but the walker who incidentally also happens to be a narrator doesn't go with him, so he goes alone. not the best thing to do in horror movies.
Instead a young couple runs over an alien. it pops thier tyre and they do the classic hollywood mistake of "i cant drive with flat tire". so they decide to walk home, in alien infested place. they break into farmers house to call the police, the farmer doesn't believe them and just runs them off. and he doesn't care that there is a dead alien body under his car. Meanwhile the friend of the narrator finds the alien body under the car and breaks into the same farmers house to call his friend. but the friend still doesn't believe him. The alien then attacks him and using his finders makes him drunk to death.
The army finds saucer and as it refuses to go out when they ask him in English (because there is no way they dont know English right?) they decide to shoot it. as that fails they decide to break into it instead. Typical military, always thinks with a gun.
The couple that ran over an alien is charged of running over the man alien killed, the alien is gone though. So they think the guy is crazy. The city attorney doesn't straighten things out either. The army cutting though the craft accidentally explodes the thing, so the police officers are distracting. The kids use that as a distraction and run away though the window. The kids steal a police car but they keep the siren on so it would be easier to track them! They decide that they can handle aliens with a stick even though they already killed a person. The dead aliens arm comes alive at this point, grows itself an eye and crawls into the stolen police car. After taking a 2 minute stroll the young couple decides they wont find anything and drives away. i guess you cant blame nowadays kids with short attention span if their parents were anything like this. The hand attacks them but it fails utterly. at least its not the "girl screams for 5 minutes watching hand crawl onto her" sort of thing. They go to the narrator A.K.A. dead mans room mate and he eventually believes it. so he goes to find it too, but takes camera and a gun. that's at least one smart person in this movie.
Meanwhile, the alcohol stinging alien decides to scare local farm animals, including bulls. he does not seem aggressive though, more like defend against bull attacks. the bull puts its horn right into the aliens eye with what seems a very gory scene for the times. The alien triumphs ignoring the wound. As they arrive at the police car they see aliens attempting to break in into the car - car thief style. they find out that the aliens are afraid of spotlight, so they use car spotlight and camera flash bulb to attack them, but battery runs out. The aliens really look awful slow but they manage to catch the narrator guy anyway, even if he starts running first. The kids call from the SAME FARM for police to come but they dont want to go after them any more and tells them to go to sleep. Then there is a wierd scene with a bull hiking due to alcohol after the fight with the alien. nice, they didnt forget that either. The kids then go to their friends, they get couple cars around and surround aliens who just happens to be in the middle of the place. they then kill them all by car lights and save the guy. afterwards the farmer catches up and almost shoots them all for getting their bull drunk. hah. at least they dealt with the aliens.

Story: 6/10. It can be confusing some times but its good.
Acting: 3/10. everyone but the main characters were really bad.
Sound: 1/10. the usual.
Sci factor: 6/10. well they didnt break much rules because they didn't set much. they inject you with alcohol - check. they are afraid of light - check. that's about it. burning from intense light isn't strange for aliens. heck there are even people who can get skin burns if they stay in intense heat (for example sun) for a period of time, can lead to hospitalization too. and no they are not vampires, its a skin disease.
Lasting Appeal: 4/10. nothing spectacular but worth to remember just for its different portrayal of army forces in this one.
Overall rating: 4/10.
