Drive-In Sci-Fi: Queen Of Outer Space (1958)

A planet Venus full of woman. Oh, haven't we seen this before? No, Fire maidens From Outer Space Was actually on Jupiter.
It starts a s a run to a space station ferrying a scientist that built it. Its interesting how much they put into the lift-off. it even looks like a real G-force is pushing them down. However suddenly a strange ray beam makes the whole station go boom. So they run away from it, in a bad direction. it crashes into the ship.
And only then we get the titles. what a weird place to put them, like the modern tv shows where they show 5 minutes of the episode and then decide its time for titles.
Either way, the rocket crash-lands on Venus that looks like north pole. They mention it looks like Alaska. Real Venus are actually a volcanic burning planet and wouldn't be white. but back then that was still not known and since the object looked white i can see where they made that assumption. The actual surface was explored in 1990 by a robot. Back to topic, they find vegetation on the planet and it looks like a jungle all of the sudden. The astronauts tell him how Venus should be from scientist point of view and they decide that the science was wrong after all.
They find an electrical signal and follow it. They soon are ambushed by beautiful woman with short skirts. And as one of the astronauts notice, they speak English. They are escorted to a castle that looks like a hand-drawn cartoon to meet the queen. Women leader thinks they are spies from earth and earth is going to declare war on them. but not all of them are so treacherous. They decide that woman cannot have shot them down on purpose because woman are bad drivers, so they cant aim. This movie definitely does not lack comedy.
We get a bit of sexism from the astronauts then one of them are invited into queens quarters. The guy tries to sweet talk her out of the evil plan but keeps doing the simplest mistakes. So they throw him back with the others which is when a soft-hearted women help them escape from the city and into the underground base housing the ray thats going to destroy earth. While on the way they meet a huge bug-spider that attacks them. However they get involved with the woman in kissing them overnight. They get recaptured while doing that and brought back to the city. all went to waste. However the machine fails to work and explodes instead. The woman organize a cue and overthrow the queen. Earth tells them it will take year for rescue, so there are 4 men in planet of sexy woman for a year.


Story: 7/10. Was pretty decent there.
Acting: 8/10. Surprisingly good. they really worked on this one.
Sound: 4/10. Not bad, but nothing spectacular.
Sci factor: 5/10. Well, lets just say enough.
Lasting Appeal: 6/10. hat one is pretty memorable really. especially the ending.
Overall rating: 6/10.
