This movie is so popular i actually had to wait for weeks to get access to it. lets see if its been worth it shall we.
We open with a scene of a ship sinking in a storm. or at least were told its sinking and everyone is evacuated. Although they claim that the lifeboats have enough space for everyone and the storm doesn't look that bad, two en totally fail at evacuation and jumps in the water. They seem to sink like stones without even trying to swim when they are picked up by a guy with underwater costume... and a torch. infact, 3 of these guys. how does torches work underwater is beyond me. apparently they aren't useful either since the men drops them down and just grab the people, of who there seems to be more now, in the water. They get them into some underwater place that looks like its been built by renaissance architects. they even save the kitty the boy took with him to a boat trip (why would he anyway?). They do a headcount, 4 men, 1 women, 1 child, but they forget 1 kitty. ive seen too many horror movies to skip that, its definitely going to cause trouble.
one of the men are a senator. he meets captain nemo and finds out hes taking them home in this underwater ship. home that is under the water, a whole city. the people try to theorize what would Nemo want with them. they arre not given a good welcome at first but nemo eventuality welcomes them properly. the plates are made of pure gold though, it appears nemo got rich underwater. Even a cat gets to eat a lobster. then nemo tells about it. Its a city 10.000 miles under the sea (even if such places doesnt technically exist). they show that it is a huge city and tells them they will never get to leave.
Then we got to a school of this city, where they are learning to swim. a bunch of annoying kids....
Then they show them the farms where they grow their food, all of the survivors go except one that been very aggressive towards the whole thing so far. They are attacked by a big fish but defeat it.
After its all over Nemo shows them a very badly done replica of earth's globe. as they are not impressed he then shows his control post how he can control whole city from his palace. Everyone is moving around exploring the station and clearly are planing thier devious plans on their own.
Then they are attacked by some huge creature and they luck the city down so it wouldn't hurt them. Then the newcommers cause some trouble, afterwards they get lectured, nemo talks and shows some more, telling about how they plan to build more cities like that. however this does not earn nemo any points. The newcommers do find a new unguarded submarine and plan their escape. Meanwhile the monster terrorizes the city once again. They manage to kill him. They are called heroes for that and then we see the dark side of nemos sidekick. he wants them to escape so he could get a girl. its always a girl that destroys the plan somehow. why must they destroy a good book with this AGAIN? haven't they dome enough damage with Mysterious Island.
So they are beginning their escape but nemo is going to chase them with the first submarine. Apparently it is the nautilus and nautilus 2, though it doesn't look that way. They both push thier engines to the max however we also know that the one they escaped with has a faulty engine. so lets see if it manages to blow up before the end of the movie. The engine is blowing up blut it sems to happen slowly and gradually. The ship eventually blows up and they supposedly die (altrough the books written afterwards mentions their magical survival). And the movie does show thier escape with the udnerwater costumes, woo, they also catch a ship, at least that part was left correct.
Story: 7/10. story is good, a bit mistreated but good.
Acting: 4/10. ive seen better.
Sound: 3/10. could have been better, but survivable.
Sci factor: 7/10. well the science followed the book and was ok for its time.
Lasting Appeal: 5/10. i dont know about this one, didnt impress me much.
Overall rating: 5.
