Drive in Sci Fi: Fantastic Voyage (1966) Fantasticvoyagemoviepos

A scientist escapes from the Iron Curtain. His convoy however is attacked and the scientist is hurt. He has a blood cloth ins his brain caused by a concussion. there is an obvious machinery loving intro scene where they show them trying to determine what has happened to him. The music is weird, but not awful. Whenever i review a movie after 1965 it seems that the music isnt as bad, so back then Hollywood was still leaning i guess. it was so long ago as the "must be x number of dances in every movie" cliché was abolished back then.
Apparently world discovered a way to shrink people. but only for 60 minutes. the scientist that knows how to shrink people for longer is the one laying on the table. To fix the cloth they will shrink a group of scientists and they will remove the cloth from inside a brain. a security guard will come with them as part of the team for whatever reason. They explain that cloth cannot be operated externally, so they decide to go via artillery system via miniaturized crew. They slow down the guys heart as much as they can so the current inside the artery system will be as low as possible. they explain the trip very well.
This certainly should be an unusual experience. its not like nowadays where you can push a camera via blood system. They have a nuclear powered submarine that will be their vessel inside the body. They get shrunk and then moved into the artery, though the ship looks the size of a hand, but i guess they didnt care much about that. One of them gets nuts due to process. but they talk him back into sanity. After a very long and detailed injection sequence they eventually inject it into the scientists body. inside its like a huge tunnel in which they can slowboat. hey look at all types of cells inside the bloodstream and also find some strange green goo. but they have no time to investigate it. Then they get into some current they cant control. its a whirlpool inside an artery. are we supposed to be scared or amazed? i am neither. Apparently that was a join between artery and a vein. not big enough to for health problem but big enough so suck the craft in. The thing is pretty well done as it is, so not that much can be complained about, while the travel via the thing is rather slow so not much to congratulate them on either. they correct course due to recent problem they had. which gives them a way to go though the heart. that is dangerous so the people on the outside stop the heart, they go though it and then they reanimate the guy. pretty brave move especially when they could instead just take them out, and inject them back again instead. they finally manages to restart the heart, and the guy is alive again, while these submarine is alive and well. They get into a lung and see oxygenation as it happens inside lungs.
Next up on the disaster list is loss of pressure in air tanks. they cant continue without it. they decide to use oxygen from the mans lungs for that. then they find a laser (that's to be used to destroy the clog) unfastened on the floor. they think it just got dislodged while the heart jolted them forward and think nothing of it, but i smell sabotage.
They refill air and get back to the ship, but realize that the weapon has smashed transistor. this means they cant operate. They however find a way to fix it.
Then they are attacked by some green crap. its antibodies protecting the system, thinking they are viruses. To bypass this they use a route via inner ear. but there is another problem, that any outside sound will in fact kill them. The water intake wents however clog and they have to go outside and unplug it manually. this leads to them being stuck in the ear area for a while. a small sound happens on the outside and they get hurt. antibodies hear it and attack the girl scientist. they manage to get her in back in time to survive and notice that antibodies crystallized on her trapping her.
They finally reach the cloth and then mutiny occurs. one guy decides to fly off to escape for his life while others are operating.
He gets kiled by the antibodies while the ship remains inside. the rest of the crew runs away via the optic nerve. they escape via tears and survive. the ship remains in his head however and when he grows back in size, oh boy will it hurt. The movie however doesnt give us the pleasure to see it.

Story: 9/10. quite well done story, a bit slow but it works.
Acting: 6/10. no wonders but the crew was fine.
Sound: 6/10. reasonably well done. definitely a step up.
Sci factor: 9/10. would have given it a 10 if not for some irregularities like how they swim to the eye so fast or how the ship doesnt materialize back inside his head.
Lasting Appeal: 8/10. while maybe not so fantastic, it was a great journey indeed.
Overall rating: 8.
