Drive-In Sci-Fi: Battle Beyond The Sun (1960) Battlebeyondthesunmovie

A russian movie about aliens competing to colonize mars remade into american movie by no less than francis ford copola. Yes, they were doing that even back then. Infact Dracula (1931) is probably the first movie that was "remade" the same year it was released. But its actually more of a russian movie with american sound overwrite with few extra scenes edited.
in 1997 atomic war happened and the earth population has been reduced significantly. right. world divided into two parts, north and south hemisphere. they attempt to land people on mars. what they manage is to land on a space station that is somehow very spacey. there is also a space station near jupiter now. meanwhile northen hemisphare spaceship do emergency landing in the station aswell, for repairs they say. i smell spy coming.
we find out both sides want to reach mars first. and they play diplomacy while aboard. they also argue between themselves about the danger it impose. northerners are boasting ahead and in the process hurt the southerner in station. the southerners are strangely all dressed in red, i wonder why....
There is a lto of technological stuff that looks strange by todays standards and the rocket finally launches. both nations are now in race towards mars. The spaceship gets in trouble from the suns gravity and gets destroyed. the one from northern hemisphere. apparently the message is "they were too eager to start early". the red rocket actually manages to do something. but they run out of fuel and land in mars satellite. apparently there are life on marks just depending on the fact that it reflects light. and they meet some weird aliens. but the aliens appear to begone in next scene. they try to send fuel rocket to the rock but they fail as the rocket crashes so they decide to send manned rocket so it could land. doesnt matter that it would run out of fuel same way the first one did. then the alien actually attack the guys on the rock however it is ultimately very slow, headless monster that does nothing but groan. infact there are two monsters that fight eachother, for what we wont find out.
Instead of waiting they decide to take off for earth on thier own. and they make it. they werent out of fuel afterall.

Story: 4/10. somewhat fine.
Acting: 2/10. not great.
Sound: 2/10. it was poorly dubbed and even at that it was still poorly made.
Sci factor: 3/10. there are some scientific stuff but thats about it.
Lasting Appeal: 1/10. not memorable movie at all.
Overall rating: 2/10.
