Drive in Sci-Fi: 12 To the Moon (1960)

International rocket is going to take a first trip to the moon ever. Strangely that during the cold war all world jumped together to build a spaceship. International team is taken aboard the ship. Even the navigator from Nigeria. lucky it is not the 00s, he would scam them off the consoles. They even take a dog and couple monkeys with them to space. The team all has their personalities and it ends up being comical. One of the guys keeps a journal. second entry "everyone seems artificially calm to hide their excitement". not something you tell your employers.
There is tension between the Russian and Israelite but that seems to be played down by heir first typical disaster. They meet a meteor cluster, what else. They avoid it by noticing it fast enough and the local animal residents are scared. actually there are cats aboard too, they got a zoo. when one teammate ask what just happened he answer is "oh just some stray meteors". yeah brush it off like its normal occurrence. The men get more tension between Russians and Germans while the ladies take a shower of ultrasound. Ohh i see what they did here, cold war inside the team, putting things down to personal level.
Then they meet atomic dust cloud and try to avoid it by firing some missile that supposedly diverts them to side. They manage to push through it with the ship still in one piece and a lot of smoke machines makeup. If there were so much crap frying between the earth and the moon we would be dead by now. If they were flyign to mars sure i can understand them being unlucky, but they could have scanned the skies and picked better trajectory than worst possible when going to the moon couldn't they? NASA did. The Israelite goes on rambling how nazis killed thousands of jews, turns out, the father of the german scientist. Oh if they play this drama right it has a lot of potential.
They finally land on the moon, and its like sand, not that far from the real deal, which is very tiny rocks. They find a crater thats producing smoke too, which is not really true. They find no air or sound on moon. So far so good, they been really scientific about it. They were bombarded by meteors, but noone dies due to thier magnetic technology. They set up theflag to claim moon for earth and for no single nation. Now they go to do some scinetific exploration in here. They find gold on the moon in formation of a pile of rocks. inside the formation they see a material they claim never seen before. like liquid fire in a form of rock. The Nigerian starts claiming its "evil". Then suddenly they find Air on the moon. Its gravity nto enough to support atmosphere but they find air inside the cave. Not the first movie to indulge in that anyway. A movie about the first men on the moon no less. Although technically this came first. At the end of the cave is a solid wall of ice. so they decide to break though it.
One person gets sucked in quicksand and they search for him. They see chineese hieroglifs that basically say return to earth you have done enough damage, leave us alone and never come back. If they decide that men are evil they will destroy them. They dont believe it, they think its other men trying to scare them off. Well since aliens write in chineese i can see how they can think that. The human eventually find out that the aliens are real and decide to destroy it with a bomb. as tension build some dont want the bomb to be set off and start a mutiny, but he is qiuckly taken care off and they are going on with a plan. two men must sacrifice their lives for the plan, and the straws are drawl. a German and american is to be dropping the atomic bomb. The alines kill the bombers, but they realized that people sacrificed thier lives for this plan, and they realize that humans can be good and therefore let them go. the earth tells them that something unusual happened on earth, and they go back home.

Story: 8/10. it was a pretty good story. little problems with this.
Acting: 4/10. the bad accents and poor acting shows, but they clearly tried to do well here.
Sound: 2/10. the usually bad, but sometimes a bit of piece where no background sounds were around.
Sci factor: 7/10. the alien pwoer to freeze people is what ruined this part. beside that, it was very well done.
Lasting Appeal: 8/10. not every day you see aliens letting humans go because they sacrifice themselves.
Overall rating: 6/10.
