Drive in Sci Fi: Little Shop Of Horrors (1960) Littleshopofhorrors1960

Jack Nicholson. The winner of 3 Oscars and 77 other nominations, famous for The Shining, The bucket List, The original batman, one flew over cuckoos nest and many other films had to start somewhere. Although technically first film is the The Cry Baby Killer (1958) this is the film that got him famous. According to IMDB he was 23 years old when this came out. The cover makes you believe that hes 60.
a young florist gets fired from a flower shop but has a last chance to stay on the job. it is to bring a new unique plant that will draw costumers. it plays it as a comedy and reminds me of abbot and costello. i like that. The boy, other workers and a costumer in yellow jacket talks the owner into giving him anther week to see whether the plant works. apparently nothing helps to refurbish the plan that is normally used for flowers however. he finds out that blood is what feeds him so he donates his own blood to it. the next day the business is booming and the boss is happy. however in the evening plant is feeling bad again. during the night he finds out that the plant shouts "Feed me". and "feed me more". the plant is not happy. He sees a guy accidental die in a trainwreck. He grabs his body and use that as a food for the plant.
The owner secretly notices how he feeds the leg of the man to the plant. He doesn't go to the police however, as the plant grows huge and bring great business. However he wants more food. so the guy brings him the dentist. Thats a ncie way to make business and save world from dentists.
The next night the boss stays to take care of plant and the place gets robbed. however the boss tricks the robber to get inside the plant and it eats it. so now the plant ate 3 guys.
4th night the plant hypnotizes the guy to get him some food. so he goes and finds a hooker. or rather she finds him. she offers to help. and he invites her over, to meet the plant. He feeds the plant this girl.
During the day the pan opens and inside you have faces of all dead people. Guess he wont get that award for the plant after all. the police chases him but he runs away. when he returns he grabs a knife and goes after the plant. however thep lant eats him and makes him into part of himself.

Story: 6/10. the humour elements were good and the plant idea was fine. but it wasn't that complex or believable.
Acting: 5/10. Jack Nicholson really done well in the small role he had, the rest of the crew done ok.
Sound: 3/10. bad in its own way, but not completely awful.
Sci factor: 4/10. a plant that eats a man per day and turns it into part of himself, right.
Lasting Appeal: 7/10. well this one is worth remembering. if only for the weirdness of it all.
Overall rating: 5.
