Drive in Sci-Fi: The Golden Voyage Of Sinbad (1974) Thegoldenvoyageofsinbad

Slightly above the usual time frame this is a sequel to the previously reviewed 7th voyage of Sinbad. This is the second instalment in the Sinbad trilogy of movies. Once again with usage or Ray Harryhaused special stop motion effects. Back then they were considered life-like, now we laugh at them. He is considered one of the best stop motion artist to have ever lived, but personally i find his effects rather silly.
Sinbad in this movie is played by another actor, which is good considering the gap between the two movies. a strange bird approaches the ship and drops an artefact that makes the guy who picks it up hallucinate of a slave with eye tattooed on her palm. He obviously keeps the artefact, because well, hes greedy. Actually it was Sinbad that picked it up, but it was unclear considering how he looks. That night their ship is attacked by a storm and theyfind shelter on strange island, on which the local mage clams that the item the creature dropped is his. sinbad turns evil, hits the guy and runs away. Hes nowhere to what he was in first movie, then again it was the times when "slap someone on the face" was a normal thing.
He finds a guy that has another piece of the item he found. they figure out that its a map on a wall and they decide to go on a voyage to find whatever the map hides. The evil mage hears of it via his spy and they notice that he does. the spy self-destructs. Now we got a race of Sinbad and evil mage to find something somewhere (they never tell us). then they figure out its an island they want to find. The artefact is supposed to unlock something that gives ultimate power, and sinbad in this movie is powermonger as much as anyone else. He also takes a lazy boy along to the journey and get paid for it a slave (with a tatoo on her palm from the hallucination), and 400 whatever money they used. a good idea to take a female slave on a long trip voyage in a ship full of men.
They set sail, and the evil mage follows them. The ship also takes the local king that has a head of gold.... this is a very strange movie. and filled with whatever was though to be the arab culture. The lazy boy serves as a comic releaf for what never asked for one. i hope it serves a future purpose or the time with him will be totally wasted. The captain lets the slave be free, well as much free as you can be in a ship full of men.
During their journey they have a regular amount of trouble. storms, cliffs, giant wooden monster, all regular everyday dealings of a marine. They land on an island that look like a monument to a wicked Hinduism religion. They go to oracle to seek for knowledge. She speaks some wierd language, looks like a mix between chineese and alien. The oracle tells that there must be 3 tablets and not 2 and therefore he wont tell shit to them but still tells them where the third tabled is, in riddle form. "Destiny is invisible but yet visible, destiny is a place where both good and evil wake till the end of power" and so on and so forth, the riddle is bad, but it tells them to go north for godess with many limbs. ok now were going into hinduism for sure. The evil mage traps them inside the cave of oracle and goes to search for third tablet.
Then, a random scene ofsome locals trapping a mage and his buddy with spears in front of shiva statue. they dont seem scared though. The mage makes shiva statue dance. This is so random. The locals get scared shitless though. Sinbad finds him, throws him a sword and challenges him. it woudl be easier to jsut kill him but no you got to have a duel with an evil mage. right....
Mage makes the shiva statue fight them instead in the stopmotion fight that lasts too long for its own sake. After they win the fight against shiva the locals return and they are angry. they decide t sacrifice sinbad under the directions of a mage. The eye on the girls palm however distract them. they decide to sacrifice her instead. They do it by lowering her into a pit with a centaur with one eye. He appears to be feral. She instead of fighting faints and he captures her and gets her into his lair. All of sinbads crew follow him there to their escape from the green locals.
Meanwhile the evil mage reaches the fountain of destiny that is surrounded by stonehendge. weird universe this movie is in. its also inside a cave, so stonehenger is pointless. Sinbad also finds it and so does the centaur. They have a fight with him with mage supposedly controling centaur now. Then a giant Griffin omes and fights the centaur. I assume this is supposed to symbolize the battle between good and evil.
Eventually the humans kill the monsters, start killing each-other. The mage turns invisible but they still kill him. then the crown of untold riches appear in the water, and as the king gets crowned his golden mask turns into a face and hes now healed apperently too. good guys win again.

Story: 7/10. a bit better story this time.
Acting: 5/10. the slave was the best one of actors.
Sound: 3/10. consider its the 80s, awful.
Sci factor: 3/10. magic more magic and more bad magic. all religions mixed together.
Lasting Appeal: 3/10. not really my thing. the animation was quite ok, but thats all i can say about it. i was rooting for the mage. he was more interesting of a character.
Overall rating: 4.
