Drive in Sci-Fi: The Black Scorpion (1957) Theblackscorpionmoviepo

There were many posters for this one, but this is the most hilarious one. Read the text on it, even in 1957 people weren't that gullible were they?
The volcano is wrecking Mexico, and they are fighting it with.... prayers..... Right. The narrator gives us some statistics about it and shows how people are looking at lava like 5 meters away. they would get burns from the heat alone, so its obviously fake. Also what's with Americans filming stuff in Mexico and pretending its pretty much their country with silly locals. this is shown in many movies of the period. i guess average American though like that back then. Two americans are travelling to a volcano eruption area and in the way they meet an american police officer and a telephone fixer. the locals on the other hand live in huts that look like african tribal huts. they also see a car that is disassembled and shout "look at that it must be something terrible". They get to the city and there is talks about devil claiming people. The local priest tells them this is not the first time and tells the story of how it happened.
The next day the two explorers are going to explore the craters but instead find something "a lot more interesting", a girl on a horse. apparently she falls and they set off to find her. they drive with one driving and other one finger ahead of the car pretending to be superman till they get to the woman who seems to be all right. Near the crater they also find obsidian. Inside it they find a love scorpion. thats a miracle.
Then we see a giant scorpion attacking the house they were in. at least the scorpion looks less like a piece of crap than most movies. its definitely better than the poster. They fend him off and now they discuss about the small scorpion and a frog, both of which seems to have been extinct before. They also claim they emptied a machinegun into the biggie and it didnt stop. So they are trying to figure out what to do. They want to use poison gas, as been effective against normal scorpions. it seems like a good plan.
They go into its cave, finds it and attacks it with poisonous bullets. but it doesn't seem to penetrate it. Then two scorpions starts fighting each other out. however instead they kill some giant worm and then start fighting for food. they seem to have a system where one biggie gets it all and kills the others. They blow up the cave and thing that is it.
However 2 days later they find out couple of them are matching towards Mexico city. so they set up a trap for it. they want to electrocute it. They succeed to to kill it and decide to use antidote for its poison.

Story: 5/10. half decent story. nothing new. giant monster attacks.
Acting: 6/10. pretty good for this type of movie.
Sound: 3/10. Bad as usual.
Sci factor: 6/10. they did ok on science, came to some logical conclusions, but scorpion staying alive inside a molten lava is not very nice way to play it out.
Lasting Appeal: 3/10. the black scorpion will leave a black hole in my mind.
Overall rating: 5.
