Drive-In Sci-Fi: Quatermass 2 (1957)

The second instalment in Quatermass trilogy.
A man is quickly moved to a hospital with a terrible burn on his face, all deliriuos. He is being driven by his girlfriend or wife (unclear) whose driving almost causes an accident, and this enters the help of a man - the other driver. But that is all we get to see from this piece and we cut to some meteorology center. Apperently something is coming from the sky. There is a spaceship in the background, the same one from the first movie.Apperently the whole complex belongs to the quatermass project.
Doctor Quatermass comes in and lectures them on trying to find out what it is, they should instead do something useful. Quatermass somehow got the stones (meteorites) that buned the man in the intro.
He goes rambling how the government wont let him continue his rocket and space colony experiments. hes obviuosly angry at them.
He plans to go to university, enroll and try to find where he went wrong with his experiments.
However results that the meteorites he found and the meteorolgy center picked are the same thing interests him and he goes to find them instead. They find them, his assistant picks one of the rocks, and gets injured on the face the same way the other guy did, so its obviuosly some alien rocks with gas.
He goes though many hoops and talk the local police chef to make him and quatermass do a tour in the area, which is suppsed to be synthetic food plant. They got a strick "dont get off route" policy and dont really asnwer much question. the man leads them into one of the large dones which supposedly produce the food. Something fishy is going on in the plant, One man dissapears, Quatermass runs away to search for him. This is a horror movie. The man appears, fully covered by something black and smoking. He tells Quatermass that that is "the food" and it burns. and then he dies.
Sirens goes of, a search party obviuosly, quatermass runs away and hides from them. He escapes and tells the authority, but noone believes him. The goverment is covering up the deaths, so that also isnt supporting his story. He finally talks him into investingating and during that time he notices that the high ups in washington are infected too.
Meanwhile they trace the sources of the meteorites in a freak orbit around the earth. some large meteorite is spewing them. This is fast turning into a alien mothership - i guestimate.
The good guys tried to rat it all to the press. He makes a large press meeting and they dont believe him either. It goes terribly wrong when everyon gets shot by the alien controled zombies humans. Only Qutermass and a few others escape due to their recless driving.
At the factory, they are sending amonia gas containers and pretty mcuh producing stuff for alien colony.
Then an all out revolt starts near the factory. people with clubs versus alien controled soldiers with machineguns. And yet somehow the real people win and bbreak though into the factory.
The Quatermass and co locks themselves into pressure control chamber. So they take the opportunity to mess with the controls and set the gas supply to zero, which will lead to the aliens dieing. They also have a backup plan, to blow the factory up with a rocket.
The dones burst and an alien that is a huge lump of mess starts crawling towards them, multiple aliens. They somehow fail to die in oxygen enviroment. They run away with a car once again and the alinens start to burn after the rocket hits them. The aliens die and the humasn survive the blast. All is well in the world again.


Story: 8/10. A well done quatermass story in which quatermass isnt even an asshole.
Acting: 6/10. Good from the main cast, not so good from others.
Sound: 4/10. Bad habits of hollywood die hard.
Sci factor: 9/10. The only problem is amonia based lifeform surviving in human body.
Lasting Appeal: 7/10. Nothing entirely new, but a nice spin on the subject and done very well.
