Drive in Sci-Fi: The Colossus of New York (1958) Colossusofnewyorkposter

The openinig scenes are two men watching a video about modern machines of baking. they then discuss that one of them invented it. Appernetly he also won a nobel peace prize for that. The Nobel Peace Prize 1958 was awarded to Georges Pire. But in the movie the guy is named Jeremy! Infact there no nobel prize ever won by a person named Jeremy. (more information can be found http://nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/peace/laureates/). His son flies a toy plane in airport and it catches in the wind, so the father chases after and gets hit by a truck. yay for nobel prize worthy mind. The laureat dies on the spot. Yet his father manadges to keep his breain on life suport. That is, his brains only, without a body. Shouldnt he have won nobel in medicity for such archievement anyway? After the burial father tries to argue the existance of soul with Jeremy's brother Henry and they end up with father runing out of the house.
then we end up fastforwarding 4 months without anyone telling us so, and we only find this out via the casual conversation of the wife not leaving hosue for 4 months. Then the father decides to show Henry that he kept Jeremy alive. The brain looks pretty good and the aparatus for breathing is inventative. the way he proves that Jeremy brain is alive is pretty good too, so thats a big plus on this aprt of the movie. the acting is pretty decent for the movie of its kind which is suprising.
They make an oversized robot and put his brain in it. apperently the mechanical frankenstein works...until he sees himself in the mirror. he falls flat then and there is no sign of life left. the noisy wife wants to get in on a secret so they drug her to sleep. not the best choice lol. the robot feels suicidal and asks to destroy him. they persuade him to work for science and he soon finds out he can see images miles away, hypnotize with his eyes and overal becomes a new sort of superhero. he walks out to find his own grave. he hides inside bushes extremely poorly and spectates his son putting flowers on his grave. he asks for him to come and the poor boy does. the boy think hes a giant and talks with him heh. the guy gets angry and smashes the killswitch, thne goes on stalking his wife. his main complain for life is that he cannot smell or feel pain.come on your alive and you complain about not having pain? he soon finds out his brother is cheating on his wife and attacks him. isntead of runing they are slowly walking backwards till he, moving slower than a zombie, catches up. the wonam falls, typically. whats up with 50s woman, why do they all just faint for no reason all the time? the husband just carries her back to bed. we find out the robot can also walk underwater and goes on ramapage to kill henry. So 1 hour into the movie and im sitll waiting for "colossus", all i see is some robot with angry brain....... oh wait wow he just made lazer pistol out of his eyes and killed Henry, he seems to develop powers as he pleases. the he breaks into his own house and destroy all his experiments, slowly. from all it looks the monster is slow enough to outwalk him.
He goes mad and decides to "kill all humanitarian scientists". wow thats a big goal over the romace with his wife.
The Giant invades national food conference and starts killing people. instead of runing they all just stand there dieing, untill the kid comes and kills him. No wait, the giant asks for his kid to kill him, that breain is really suicidal.

Story: 6/10. Intresting, even if not elaborate.
Acting: 6/10. Surprisingly good for a low budged 50s movie.
Sound: 5/10. Unique piano score together with something that looks like organ. altrough not devastating its pretty good escape from previuos movies.
Sci factor: 4/10. It started of good but once the brain started to develop superpowers it gone way over the top.
Lasting Appeal: 6/10. A man that died, became a robot, developed superpowers, wanted to suivide twice, suceeding second time and wanted to kill every humanitarian scientist? sure am going to remmeber that one.
Overall rating: 5/10.
