This one has Vincent Price, famoust for his roles in Frankenstein and Dracula movies.
The movie opens with a strangely compelling poem as a group of men find a strangely dressed body washed out on the coast of sea. One of the people who found him recognize him. Hes a Lawyer. He goes to the guy he was working for, obviously a rich man living in a mansion. The doorman tells him a story thats way too close to jackyl and hide but still he leads them to the woman. Apparently she leads him to the person who owns the place. But they find out that therei s a thief inside instead of the owner and the thief attacks them and then runs away. however they notice that he looks very much like a fish-head person.
Meanwhile the seamen talk about a legend that there is a sea burried under the sea. Looks like they are in Scotland too, at least from the accents. Apparently one of the seaman hears bells rung form the sea whenever dead boy shows up in the sea. They call it Lioness. The original name for Atlantis is Craton. but it was never called lioness. Oh well that must mean its original right?
The guy stays for the night, but during that someone kidnaps the girl, so they go looking for him. What they find is a hidden passage in the wall that leads to a whirpoor in the middle of the room. they accidentally fall into it and look to rown. but they end up in some hidden area that has no water in it, and has air too. They find a tunnel and follow it until they seem to find what looks like a group of men doing a cult ritual in some ancient chamber. They tie one to the pole and leave the room, the bells start ringing too. He dies and they move on. they did try to help him but did not succeed. They find a local and attack him without going into talks. as he beats him up the others come into a room and now they start talking.
Apparently a new underwater volcano is about to erupt and destroy the place so they want to find a way to fix the problem with it. They call the fish-head creatures Gill-men. He gives them 3 times to think of a way to put out a volcano! A small smuggler telsl them a story of how it all begins and decides to help them if they take him with them to go out. He gets find out and executed. They get a tour and see the girl. after that they manage to rescue her. However they still get trapped. The Captain of underwater city tells them they are to be executed at the turn of the tide.
The old man comes to rescue and tells them a way out. It is in great detail that he tells the exit. There is a plan and they go to execute it. as always everything almost fails because the woman is acting foolish. They get followed too but they manage to get suited up and outside the complex.
Then, a over-long chase sequence under water. Eventually the "monsters" catch up and they make a fight. but the humans beat them and they run away. Eventually they escape from the water and into the ground up above. the smugglers chase them up led by captain to attack them. As this happens the volcano becomes more and more angry and things start to fall apart. Smugglers catch up and they play a shooting range in all that rubble. eventually the smugglers get all killed and the good guys escape. The volcano erupts and hot sausage comes in, i guess it is supposed to be lava. As usual, they escape while the bad guy dies from the melting of lava. However the evil Captain is not ever yet. He still manages to get into the suit and chase them towards surface, and the fish-men return as well. But this time they are quickly resolved by arbalests and everyone comes to the surface unscratched. Captain too, though he is lumping. He gets into sunlight and ages instantly to death. and at that point volcano erupts throwing lava above water surface and destroying whole city with it. and thats how we end, with a big bang.
Story: 8/10. pretty decent for such movie.
Acting: 6/10. above average but its nothing special.
Sound: 5/10. i was going to get this a high mark, but at the end the awful one music for all scenes got back, so no, still not good enough.
Sci factor: 5/10. well, atlantis and all, it wasn't that badly done. could have been better.
Lasting Appeal: 6/10. cant say too much here, but fish-men certainly are coping monster from the black lagoon.
Overall rating: 6/10.
