Re: Drive in Sci-FI: Journey to the Seventh Planet (1962) Journeythotheseventhpla

in 2001 humanity is united (nations) and all solar system save for Uranus have been explored and no life was found. There is a 5 man international mission to land on Uranus. However everything still look very 70s to look at from uniforms to equipment. from conversation to woman. For some weird reason the space is blue. oh i get it, its alternate reality, all is forgiven.
an alien lifeform on Uranus penetrate the human minds and their imagination becomes reality as they get close to the planet. They think it was just a blackout and land on the planet. it quickly grows up with forests and so on. airlocks open up by itself and they start to be suspicious. but still go and take a look. one of the astronauts remember the area from childhood and tell about its landmarks which they later find. They also find that no plants have roots. its an obvious fake forest.
They soon discover that the area is hold by a forcefield and sticking thier hand outside means your hand freezes to ice block instantly. Camping the area one starts to talk about his childhood and a mirage of same thing appears, so they storm the place with guns. they get the drill quite fast. think and its there. so first things first, they spawn a bunch of girls they always wanted. true scientists.
They go out the barrier in ridiculous looking space suites. their radio waves does not penetrate it but they end up on the actual planet surface. apparently the place is very cold and radioactive. cold i can understand, no idea why it would be so radioactive knowing its distance from sun. One of them falls into a sand pit and almost dies, the other two (3 took off and 2 are left in ship/forcefield) does not seem to be in a hurry to help. but they manage to pull him off. apparently is a ammonia snow quicksand pit. They also find a somewhat live slime thing and shoot it. so it freezes them again. So in defence the creature make their fears real.
thier biggest fear is... a giant one eyed rodent... seriously. they live and run to the rocket and find out its one of the crew members fear. So they discuss how to fight that. interrogating thier fantasies they find out that this planet has one big being that control all this. And that it would never let them leave. They go into the cave where the monster lives and apparently it is warm in there. They find the core that seems to hypnotize. But it spawns a giant tarantula that apparently someone thinks of. They manage to kill it with a rockslide no less, back to business of killing the monster. but they retreat and get seduced by the creature. The captain talks them out of it and they build a torch rig. The alien steal it and make a fake one.
After supposedly destroying creature, the crew returns to the ship and takes off, but suddenly everyone but the captain disappears, leaving the captain in terror. we are left with an open ending in the theme song.

Story: 8/10. pretty good.
Acting: 7/10. this one isn't bad either.
Sound: 7/10. they really worked on that this time. the soundtrack was actually good.
Sci factor: 7/10. Not a bad job in this department either. sure the beginning was off, but the rest was pretty nicely done.
Lasting Appeal: 9/10. Not the most memorable movie, but this one is definitely one of those that will remain in the top shelves of my memory.
Overall rating: 8/10.
